Two South Koreans Among 18 Sentenced to Death in Vietnam for Drug Trafficking

Seoul - Two South Korean nationals were among 18 individuals sentenced to death in Vietnam for drug trafficking. The sentencing occurred on Saturday and was reported by a Vietnamese newspaper.

According to Yonhap News Agency, VnExpress International reported that former South Korean police officer Kim Soon Sik, 63, his compatriot Kang Seon-hok, 30, and 16 others received the death penalty from the Family and Juvenile Court under the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court (HCMC) after a four-day trial. This case marks the highest number of death sentences in a drug case in HCMC. Kim, who was expelled from the police force due to violations, had been imprisoned six times from 2000 to 2016 for immigration and emigration-related offenses.
