South Korea's parliament is pushing to hold talks with its North Korean counterpart to promote peace on the divided Korean Peninsula, South Korea's parliamentary speaker said Tuesday.
National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang made the announcement at the third Eurasian Parliament Speakers Meeting, which is under way in Antalya, a resort city on the Turkish Mediterranean.
Moon also sought support from his counterparts representing nearly 40 countries on denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and efforts to bring permanent peace to the peninsula.
In September, North Korea accepted Seoul's proposal to hold the first-ever inter-Korean parliamentary meeting within this year.
Choe Thae-bok, the chairman of the North Korea's rubber-stamp parliament, the Supreme People's Assembly, agrees to the proposal "in principle," according to Moon's office.
