SEOUL, South Korea’s top diplomat met with a Russian parliamentary leader in Seoul Monday for discussions on ways to improve relations between the two nations, the foreign ministry here said.

In talks with Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the State Duma Committee for Foreign Affairs, Kang Kyung-wha took note of lawmakers’ contribution to “remarkable development” in bilateral ties as shown in President Moon Jae-in’s successful visit to Russia last month.

The Russian lawmaker was quoted as telling the minister that people there were “deeply impressed” by Moon’s speech at the parliament.

They also exchanged views on security conditions in Korea and how to promote cooperation between the lawmakers of the two countries.

South Korea and Russia played a leading role in creating the Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments (MSEAP) in 2016.
